For those who have just arrived from an alien planet, the Venice Film Festival is the world’s oldest film festival. It was first held in the year 1932 and since then has been taking place every year during the end of August or the beginning of September.

The venue for the same is on the island of Lido. It does not matter if you visit it during some other time of the calendar year. Check out the famous Palazzao del Cinem on the Lungomarie Macroni. Apart from being the oldest, the Venice Film Festival is also the world’s biggest such event.

Those who are aware of this festival know very well about the Golden Lion which is awarded to the festival’s best screened movie and the Volpi Cup which is presented to the best actress and actor. A special addition was made in the year when a new category for the best film of the `against the stream’ section was introduced.
