Museo Storico Navale
Visiting the Museo Storico Navale is a must for those who are interested about ships. However, this does not mean that it will not attract the attention of those who are not. Where else on earth can an individual find replicas of ships that are 2 meters in length, which are constructed with precise care so that they are a perfect replica of the original?
For the uninitiated, this naval museum is considered the best of its kind in the world. It is located in the eastern Castelo district of Venice, near the Arsenale. You can get a hint of what to expect inside the interior of the museum at the gate itself which is surrounded by two hug anchors that were seized from Austrian ships during the Second World War.
This five storied museum that was constructed in 1815 offers various types of displays including artifacts, models, and photos that are related to the navy.
Check out the ground floor that is devoted to artillery that were used by the Venetian army and well as those that were used for protecting the Venetian fortress.
Do not miss out viewing the large special torpedoes that were used with telling effect during the course of the Second World War.
The gondola of Peggy Guggenheim, the American art collector, is located on the third floor.
