Located in the southern part of Tuscany in the province of Grosseto is the hill town of Sorano a must stop and see spot in the Tuscany region.
Being another of the Tuscany hill towns that hangs over a tuff and is typical of the hill top fortress type towns in the region. It also goes back to ancient Roman days. Matter of fact even earlier than the Etruscan days. It’s got that Rome architecture and medieval touch to it and of course there was the renaissance. Visiting this town of Sorano means you’ll get a touch of history going back well over 2,000 years.
Thanks to Emperor Louis II for kick starting Sorano after it almost disappeared under the Roman occupation and rule. From then on it was one feud after another and that is why you’ll find such a diversity of architecture and cuisine and art.
The top sights to see are the Masso Leopldino, Rocca degli Orsini a castle from the 1300s a real must explore and photograph structure. Recognized as a prime example of Renaissance war architecture and now houses many items worth taking a look at.
You’ll find the typical transportation in and out of the town and that includes uses, cars, cabs, but you’ll want to do some walking around to really take in the terrain and get a whiff of the great cuisine and also stop to chat with the friendly folks.
