Montalcino

Located in the province of Siena is the hill based town of Montalcino.  A neighbor to Florence, Pisa, and Siena the location has been in use since the days of the ancient Romans.

Religion is the center of this city’s growth going back as far as the 9th century.  Although it’s old it’s rather small and makes for a cozy and comfy vacation.  You’ll be there at the Fortress which is the centerpiece of tourism and it goes all the way back to the mid 14th century.  Montalcino was a place of refuge for the people because of it’s high point and you’ll find it a place of refuge as your choice vacation spot in Tuscany.

Other spots of great interest are Chiesa Di Sant’Agostino which is nearby the Fortress.  It was built in the 1200s and is a real look back into that era.  The Musei Riuniti is nearby as well.  A conversion from a convent it now houses art and sculpture and is also one of the places of where civic events are held.  Like other areas of Tuscany there’s a duomo called the Duomo of Montalcino.  This 14th century structure has quite a history and worth the tour.

The Palazzo Communale was built in the 14th century and is an example of the beautiful architecture you’ll find in Tuscany.  The Centro Storico is the center spot of the town and is the must be spot in Montalcino.  The buildings and houses are so close together it’s like a fairy tale doll house town.

Montalcino is so popular now that there are plenty of hotels and other lodgings available.  Motels and bed and breakfasts are at your reach and for some good prices too.  You know the cuisine is superb because it is Italy.  Talking about food you have to talk about wine and you’ll see vineyards and get to taste wines that will make you feel like you’re about to go on an adventure of a lifetime.
