This is a province of Livorno and it has the communes of Marciana, Marciana Marina, Rio Marino, Porto Azzurro, Rio nell’Elba, and Portoferraio, Capoliveri, and Camp nell’Elba.
It’s history goes back almost 3,000 years and was even the place where Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled to and in a turnabout it was the French who in 1944 liberated the island from the Germans. It’s had it’s share of invaders from the Etruscans to the Gauls and you’ll see that combination of cultures in the sights and villages that dot the island.
Elba knows tourism and with almost 30,000 accommodations available in the hotels and bed and breakfasts, campsites, residences, home rentals, you’ll not go short of a place to rest your head after you’ve waded through the crystal clear blue waters of Elba.
