Known also as Maremma is the fabled Tuscany city of Grosseto that is so old that it predates the birth of Christ. A former Etruscan settlement it has continued to this day.
In days of old the area saw the rise in many of the arts, sciences, and agriculture. Also was found the se a trade of their goods. This history allows for scientists in archeology, anthropology, paleontology, to name a few, find this area of keen interest and is a reason why many visit the area.
It’s got everything from rolling hills, beautiful seacoasts, farms, restaurants, museums and more.
Of the mains sites to see are the Porto Santo Stefano, Porto Ercole, Massa Marittima, Castiglione della Pescaia, Scansano, Pitigliano, Sovano, Sorano, Capalbio, Manciano, the Natural Park of Alberese, and more.
Each of these scenic places in Grosseto are favorites of travelers the world over and are must be at spots with camera in hand.
As you get to the province to Grossetto, you’ll find the town of Grossetto sitting right there in the center. That makes it easy to get to and gives some fine scenery to cloak it with beautiful rural landscape.
With about 60,000 people there it’s not too many and it’s not too few for you to enjoy some company while on your stay.
Now let’s take a closer look at the sight seeing spectacles of the city. First of all the Castiglione della Pescaia rests on the coastal side of Tyrrhenia near the foot of Poggio Petricchio. It looks just like a medieval complex with it’s walls and towers that over look the area. It could almost have knights battling with swords if you look hard enough.
You’ve got to see the Piazza Dante. It’s near the San Lorenzo cathedral. As old as the late 13th and early 14th centuries, it’s got a long history of events and modifications to meet the times. You’ll find quite the number of rare artifacts there as well.
A smaller venue but of legend itself is the Piazza de Maria. It’s got a market and other festivities there that gets all prepped up during the holidays by setting up shop the weekdays prior. You’ll find people breaking out their best goods during this time and the smart tourist shopper will have have their money at the ready to get the good deals.
That’s just a taste of the many things offered in Grossetto. You’ll find that you can hang out there in some pretty advanced hotels, motels, inns, and other accommodations. You won’t be left short in this area and you can travel the area using bus, car, bike, horse, even motorcycle. You’ll want to use a variety of ways to get about so you can see all the sights and not miss out on the real good, tucked away stuff.
